Description
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a national memorial in Washington, D.C. It honors U.S. service members of the U.S. armed forces who fought in the Vietnam War, service members who died in service in Vietnam/South East Asia, and those service members who were unaccounted for and Missing In Action during the War.
The Moving Wall is an 80% replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. standing 360 feet long and 8 feet tall at apex. A flag display is flown over the wall consisting of panels with names of the fallen on them.
The replica was devised by John Devitt after he attended the annual commemoration celebrated in Washington for Vietnam veterans. Devitt felt that he needed to share his experience with those who did not have the opportunity to go to Washington. Devitt, Norris Shears, Gerry Haver, and other Vietnam veterans volunteered to build the Wall, placing it on display for the first time in Tyler, Texas, in October 1984. Two structures of The Moving Wall now travel the United States from April through November, spending about a week at each site.

Beautifully captured and so emotional an image Jon; I can't help but get a huge knot in my stomach whenever I see this - my husband is a Vietnam veteran - the toll this war has taken on those involved is endless and I am so glad that you posted this for Memorial Day....perfectly titled, thank you for sharing my friend!!! One cannot help but be awed and humbled and touched when you stand in front of this wall - the moving one or the original. My brother, who served and was wounded there, took me when it came near us and I found it overwhelmingly poignant to watch him trace the names of men in his platoon who did not come home. What a fitting image for Memorial Day weekend Jon. F/V
