Description
A hogan is a traditional structure constructed with logs and earth, blending into the arid desert landscape. The one sits under a clear blue sky and scattered clouds in the Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona.
A Hogan is the primary, traditional dwelling of the Navajo people. Other traditional structures include the summer shelter, the underground home, and the sweat house. Hogan’s can be round, cone-shaped, multi-sided, or square; with or without internal posts; with walls and roof of timber, packed earth, and stone in varying amounts, and a bark roof for a summer house. The door traditionally faces east to welcome the rising sun, believed to bring good fortune.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.
