Description
The rock formation is called the 'Devil's Backbone' and is part of the geologic Dakota group protruding west of Loveland, Colorado along Highway 34. Highway 34 to Estes Park .
The Devil’s Backbone Open Space contains 12 miles of trail connecting the Rimrock Open Space and the Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. The trails can be used for hiking, running, horseback riding, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, observing nature, as well as enjoying close-up inspection of the Devil’s Backbone rock outcroppings and mountain secnery.
The Devil’s Backbone itself is one of the most impressive and visible geologic landmarks in Larimer County, as well as an important cultural feature with a rich and colorful history.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.
