Description
Fort Lancaster operated as a fur trading post until 1844, when a particularly harsh blizzard caused the fort to close and Lancaster Lupton moved his family south to an area near modern-day Pueblo, Colorado. Fort Lancaster's name was later changed to Fort Lupton as a town grew around it. Fort Lupton was one of four fur-trading forts once located in Weld County, Colorado.
In 1988, the South Platte Valley Historical Society was formed and talk of rebuilding the fort began. It wasn't until 2004 that the project officially took off when members began rebuilding the fort as you see here. The reconstructed Fort Lancaster, as it was known in its original period of operation, 1836-1844, was completed and dedicated in 2011.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition. Ordered images will not contain the FAA watermark. Some of the proceeds from the sale of this image will be donated to the South Platte Valley Historical Society.
