Description
Sunlight casts dramatic shadows on the towering red rock cliffs, contrasting with the lush greenery below. A small group of trees offers a vibrant patch of life in an otherwise arid landscape.
Ruins are seen for the first time at Junction Overlook, where Canyon del Muerto joins Canyon de Chelly from the north, though the actual intersection is partly hidden behind an isolated, circular butte called Dog Rock. The edge of the cliffs at the viewpoint is reached by a short trail over slickrock. There are two sets of distant ruins visible, near the foot of the north rim walls - ten-room Junction Ruin, the easiest to spot, and First Ruin a little way west.
Look toward the left side of the image, opposite the buildings on the canyon floor…
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.
