Description
The Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Quemado is on US highway 60 at the junction of NM highways 32 and 36/117. South on highway 32 is the popular Quemado Lake. The church was built in the 1930's.
Quemado, New Mexico is a small commercial center for the surrounding area at a highway junction west of Socorro. Quemado is the Spanish word for "burned." Perhaps a reason is that an altitude of almost 7,000 feet, the area receives many lightning strikes during summer thunderstorms at the famous New Mexico Lightning Field.
Driving from Santa Fe, New Mexico we stopped in Quemado when I saw the church. I was very impressed with the structure and architecture that I saw. I quickly photographed it and drove on down the road. Our destination was Phoenix, but time got the upper hand after this stop and a couple others and we spent the night in Show Low, Arizona.
The next morning, we were back on the road and decided rather quickly that we had made the right decision the night before. Darkness was falling and so was the snow. The road we would have taken took us through Salt Creek Canyon, a road that is better traversed in broad daylight without the benefit of snow and ice on the pavement. I was very glad we stayed in Show Low.
I have photographed hundreds of weddings and this one reminds me of one I did in a little town in central Kansas. The church was very tiny and there was a pot belly stove right in the middle of the center aisle. A wisdom tooth was infected and I was running a pretty good temperature. But, the show must go on - and it did. The wedding, as all weddings do, came off with a 'Hitch'...
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.

This is cool, I see eyes, nose and mouth and actually somehow I see Spongebob but I don't mean anything derogatory - maybe spent too much time with the kids LOL Wonderful image! V
