Description
Silver Plume, Colorado was founded in 1870 near the rich silver mines west of Georgetown. The town flourished, reaching a population of over 2,000 people prior to 1893. Like many of the silver camps of the west, the "Panic of 1893" dealt silver mining a crushing blow, and Silver Plume's glory days were over. Lead mining sustained the town prior to World War I, but after the war Silver Plume languished. In the years after World War II, skiing and tourism gave Silver Plume a new lease on life, and today the town has a couple hundred inhabitants and many historical buildings remain from the boom times.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition. Ordered images will not contain the FAA watermark.
