Description
Water cascades from a dam nestled against a backdrop of distant mountains and a cloudy sky. Green vegetation and a rocky shoreline surround the expansive body of water in the foreground.
Mary’s Lake is located in an enlarged natural basin several miles south of downtown Estes Park. It is part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project power system. The lake serves two primary purposes: it acts as an after bay for the Mary’s Lake Power Plant, and helping regulate the Colorado-Big Thompson Project water on the way to the Estes Power Plant.
As water exits the Adams Tunnel’s East Portal, it drops 205 feet through a large penstock to the Mary’s Lake Power Plant. The Prospect Mountain Conduit and Tunnel carries water from Mary’s Lake to the Estes Power Plant.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.
