Description
"Winchester" is usually used to refer to the lever-action rifles manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, though the company has also manufactured many rifles of other action types. Winchester rifles were among the earliest repeating rifles; the Winchester repeater was incredibly popular and is colloquially known as "The Gun that Won the West" for its predominant role in the hands of Western settlers. This particular model, in 32-20, was made in 1884 and spent many years on horseback. After a bad fall, the rifle ended up with a bent barrel which resulted in a trip back to the factory for repair in 1912. The present owner has obtained a letter from Winchester stating that repairs had been completed.
