Description
This old water tank at the top of Boreas Pass near Breckenridge, Colorado served the Denver, South Park and Pacific narrow gauge railroad also known as the Colorado and Southern from Como to Leadville. The railroad had 63.8 miles of track and 435 curves. The longest section of straight track was just over one and one half miles. The line over the pass was started in October of 1880 and completed in February of 1884. The railway was abandon in April of 1937 and later restored by Summit County in 1958
When I first saw it, I realized that someone must have found a really good deal on red stain. I didn't expect to see a RED water tower on a mountain pass road, but that was what I found. I guess it's a good way to preserve the wood, but it looks a little bit out of character...
