Artists Point from Rimrock Drive in Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction. Artists Point is located in the Colorado National Monument, just past the Coke Ovens, on Rimrock Drive. The scenic trail overlooks the northern section of Monument Canyon. There are several overlooks on the trail with one right at the trailhead and the other about 150 feet lower at the end of a short trail on the point of the cliff.
Colorado National Monument is a part of the National Park Service near the city of Grand Junction. Spectacular canyons cut deep into sandstone and even granite-gneiss-schist rock formations in some areas, this is an area of desert land high on the Colorado Plateau, with pinion and juniper forests on the plateau.
The park hosts a wide range of wildlife, including red-tailed hawks and golden eagles, ravens, jays, desert bighorn sheep, and coyotes. Activities include hiking, horseback riding, road bicycling, and scenic drives; a visitor center on the west...
Photography is all about using light to capture the emotion and beauty of a fleeting moment. For me, this adventure began with a single spring image using a small Kodak film camera of a freshly watered central Kansas ditch and has come full circle using modern digital techniques. My first camera was acquired by trading an ancient Royal typewriter to a fellow college student who was desperate to finish a term paper. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since. I owned and operated a professional studio in central Kansas for 20 years and moved to Colorado in 1994.
