This is a view along the rim rock trail into a in Colorado National Monument near Fruita, Colorado. Fruita canyon dead ends a few hundred yards further up. Many spectacular views can be seen along the trail.
Colorado National Monument is a part of the National Park Service near the city of Grand Junction. Spectacular canyons cut deep into sandstone and even granite-gneiss-schist rock formations, in some areas, this is an area of desert land high on the Colorado Plateau, with pinion and juniper forests on the plateau. The park hosts a wide range of wildlife, including red-tailed hawks and golden eagles, ravens, jays, desert bighorn sheep, and coyotes. Activities include hiking, horseback riding, road bicycling, and scenic drives; a visitor center on the west side contains a natural history museum and gift shop. Photography is all about using light to capture the emotion and beauty of a fleeting moment. For me, this adventure began with a single spring image using a small Kodak film camera of a freshly watered central Kansas ditch and has come full circle using modern digital techniques. My first camera was acquired by trading an ancient Royal typewriter to a fellow college student who was desperate to finish a term paper. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since.
