Artist's Description

USS Missouri gun barrel placed in Delaware's Fort Miles. After a long journey by water and rail, a 16-inch gun barrel was unveiled at the Battery 519 Museum at Delaware's Fort Miles Historical Area in Cape Henlopen State Park, where it will be stationed. The gun barrel, weighing more than 116 tons and 66 feet long, was salvaged from the USS Missouri, the battleship on whose deck the Japanese signed the surrender that ended World War II on Sept 2, 1945. The huge 16 inch gun could hurl 2,700 pound shells more than 23 miles in 50 seconds, with pinpoint accuracy in support of U.S. ground troops.

As a major operational center of our nation's coastal defense during World War II, Fort Miles in Cape Henlopen State Park is displaying this artifact from the U.S.S. Missouri known worldwide as the ship that hosted Japan's surrender..

It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since. I owned and operated a professional studio in central Kansas for 20 years and moved to Colorado in 1994. Part of the studio's early success came from creating outdoor portraiture using controlled lighting...
