Description
Here is a pretty bright yellow flower with a reddish bushy center with a little friend perched on top. Gaillardia aristata, is also known as Indian Blanket flower, Common Gaillardia, Gaillardia, or Brown-eyed Susan. Common to Plains, Foothills and Montane, this AsterSunflower was found in the Soapstone Prairie Open Space just south of the Wyoming and north of Ft. Collins, Colorado.
The yellow hitch hiker with the antenna looks somewhat like the famous Callippe Fritillary butterfly. Their appearance varies from light tan to bright orange with black, evenly-spaced markings. Below that, they have disk olive or brown and buff sub-marginal band on the hind wing, the spots are usually silvered. Hind wing has marginal spots often more triangular with narrow brown edging.
Some digital effects were applied to the original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition.
