Description
Orion is a prominent constellation visible in the winter sky. It is located on the celestial equator and visible throughout the world without the use of a telescope.
One of the most conspicuous and recognizable constellations in the night sky, It was named after Orion, a hunter in Greek mythology. Its brightest stars are blue-white Rigel in the lower right of the photograph and Betelgeuse, a red supergiant in the upper left.
Below the three belt stars in Orion's sword, is the great nebula. It can be easily seen with a pair of binoculars or even the naked eye if you are away from the city lights. The Orion nebula, also known as M42, is an area in which new stars are being formed.
