Description
A panoramic view captures dark, brooding clouds over a rural landscape with stone markers and informational signs by a northern Colorado roadside. The atmosphere is dramatic with the contrast between the golden hues of the crops in a field and the ominous sky above.
At the end of World War II the United States had 175 Branch Prisoner of War Camps containing over 425,000 prisoners. The camps were located all over the US but were mostly in the South because of the expense of heating the barracks.
Prisoner Of War Camp #202 located west of Greeley, Colorado held soldiers from Germany and Austria. The camp was built in 1943, and the first prisoners came in 1944. The P.O.W. Camp grew to 320 acres and was a town to its self with a fire station, hospital, theater, library, classrooms, electricity, water and sewers.
The main entrance gate cornerstones are all that remains…
