Description
The "Super Moon" of 2018 rising over Pawnee National Grasslands in eastern Colorado. Each month has a full moon and sometimes two. The October full moon is called the 'Hunter's Moon' which is preceded by the 'Harvest Moon' in September. A "Super Moon" occurs when the Earth's Moon is at it's closest approach to us in its orbit. This is called perigee and when it happens, the Moon looks larger than normal in the sky.
The second full moon that occurs in the same month is commonly referred to as a "Blue Moon". This year starts out with a double as January's second will happen on the 31st of the month. Oh, BTW, this moon won't be 'blue' very long as it also coincides with a lunar eclipse causing the moon to appear red in color...
Some digital effects were applied to this original image after the photograph was made. No electrons were harmed during the transition. Ordered images will not contain the FAA watermark.
