Description
The 2020 Colorado wildfire season is a series of significant wildfires burning throughout the U.S. state of Colorado. The season is a part of the 2020 Western United States wildfire season. During this season, the Cameron Peak Fire has burned 207,127 acres, making it the largest wildfire recorded in the state of Colorado after it surpassed the Pine Gulch Fire, which earned the title seven weeks prior. Also surpassing the Pine Gulch Fire in size, is East Troublesome Fire, which, as of October 26, had burned 192,560 acres and was 15 percent contained. As it underwent an explosive burst of growth on October 21, the fire created a huge pyrocumulonimbus cloud that rose to about 40,000 feet. It is about 37 percent contained as of November 5, 2020.
A couple married for 68 years who wanted to stay with their dream home adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park died in the East Troublesome Fire after refusing evacuation help from friends, family and local authorities, according to the Grand County Sheriff's Office.
This view is from Loveland, Colorado looking west toward Rocky Mountain National Park. The East Troublesome Fire invaded parts of the park on both the western and eastern slopes of the Continental Divide. Currently Rocky Mountain National Park is partially closed to the public.
